The iPhone 15 Pro could still get 5x optical zoom, but that is insufficient.
While the iPhone 14 series has yet to be released, we’ve already heard something about the iPhone 15 family, which is that the Pro models will reportedly have a periscope camera for long-range zoom.
Now we’re hearing it again, but with a little more specificity.
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have 5x optical zoom, up from 3x on the current models, according to Jeff Pu (an analyst with a mixed track record for Apple information) in a report seen by 9to5Mac.

According to reports, Apple is in talks with Lante Optics about these periscope zoom lenses, with the latter likely to supply more than 100 million components to Apple if a deal is reached.
So it appears that there is.Apple is said to have received component samples from Lante Optics and will make a final decision by May.
If a deal isn’t reached, we’d expect Apple to look for a different supplier, but it’s unclear whether one could be found in time for the iPhone 15 lineup.
Still, a periscope zoom is a logical upgrade for the iPhone lineup, as it is a camera design that allows for much longer distance zoom than standard telephoto lenses found in current iPhones.
As a result, we believe that Apple will offer this sooner or later.
